The traditional manner of extraction of clay, manual and labourius, was made from the beginning of the summer till the last days of August, time in which the clay has less humidity. A hole was excavated, a barreiro (well) was dug to find the vein of clay. If the layer of clay was thin they opened some galleries (capillas). Wen the layer was deep the cachotes (small bits of clay rubble) were taken out in a basket pulled up by a rope. Nowadays the clay seams are found using power shovels which makes it easier to supply clay for several years.
